Australia took a 1–0 lead in the two-match Test series against New Zealand with a commanding 175-run victory in Wellington. Skipper Pat Cummins led from the front, picking up 7 wickets in the match. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne made vital contributions with the bat.
The second Test in Christchurch begins on May 6. New Zealand will be looking to bounce back with better performances from their top order.
